I went online to Stanley Steemer and made an appointment to get my carpet cleaned. As prompted, I entered the number of rooms to be cleaned (5) and was given a price of $143.95 for the five rooms which I thought was reasonable.

All my rooms had furniture and I didn't expect cleaning under the beds, dressers, couches, or larger chairs. When the technician arrived, he measured each room from wall to wall and said that an "area" consists of less than 200 square feet regardless of how much carpet was showing that needed cleaning. As a result, my five rooms turned into 6 "areas" and the price went up to $165.95. I called the manager to complain of false advertising but she insisted an area was what they used to determine the price.

The online ad said nothing about an area and used the term "room" to quote the price. I don't appreciate being duped into being overcharged because of their inappropriate communications.
